Russian Monarchists mark the centenary of the last Tsars accession to the Russian Throne

The Russian Monarchist League Ball in London. The event was attended by guests from all over the world - European aristocracy as well as leading members of the Russian Nobility.

This year marked the centenary of the accession of Tsar Nikolai II to the throne of all Russia's. To commemorate the event the Russian Monarchist League held a Ball in Belgravia to raise money for two very worthy Russian causes; the building appeal for the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad which aims to build a traditional church in the Pskov style in Chiswick, London, and the restoration of the Gethsemane Convent of Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem. The convent is in desperate need of donations to restore its deteriorating architecture and preserve its exquisite frescoes by artists such as Ivanov and Ferishagin. The convent is also the last resting place of the murdered Grand Duchess Elizabeth, sister of Tsarina Alexandra and the grand daughter of Queen Victoria. Also buried there is Princess Alice, the mother of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, and the former Abbess Tamara, daughter of the poet Grand Duke Constantine.

The event was attended by guests from all over the world, including HRH Crown Prince Schwebomin of Burma. T.I.H. the Archduke and Archduchess Franz von Hapsburg of Austria and His Excellency the former President of the Polish Government in Exile, Count Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki as well as leading members of the Russian nobility such as Prince Dmitri Galitzine and Count Andrei Tolstoy and also English nobility such as Lord Sudeley. Don Foreman, Secretary General, of the British Monarchist League also attended.
